Winnipeg Neighbourhood III
Winnipeg Neighbourhood III.
Linocut.
60cm x 90cm.
2018.
During our really dark and cold November, I've hidden away in my lovely, bright basement studio carving away on a new linoleum plate. Here is my linocut Winnipeg Neighbourhood III!
I've been wanting to revisit this imagery of a typical and charming Winnipeg neighbourhood for quite some time, and now that we've moved back it felt like just the right time. I thought it would be a nice piece to ease my way into my new studio and figure everything out. The houses in this piece were inspired by the Riverview neighbourhood, where many of our friends live. It's an interesting mix of architecture from the turn of the century up to the sixties.
As usual, I use a Tarkett flooring linoleum which has a high cork content and is quite easy to work with (my current roll is orange!) . I carved it on top of my new heating table, which softened the linoleum just right. I find the tools don't slip as easily when the linoleum is softened a bit. It was fun and I'm happy how it turned out!
